lyrics

Is anything worth it anymore? And does it even matter to me?
The point of it all’s getting harder and harder to see
I left so much behind to be absorbed by someone else
It’s a perfect monument to feeling sorry for myself
Well the best years of my life, they never came, they’ll never come
And it’s too late to force it with a daughter or a son
I’ll be the father who’s content to light it up and let it burn
And that’s much too dark a lesson for that kid to learn
Every time the phone rings, I can barely breathe
It doesn’t matter if it’s a friend, or a debt collection agency
They’re both the same in that they force me to reckon with my bitter past
I wonder how much longer I can last
Everyone’s reeling from trying to capture the feeling
Anywhere that you can get it can save you from a close call
But seeing is most of the way to believing
Just forget it, I wonder why I said it at all
